Technology
is the world's foremost authority on tin with access to 70 years

and knowledge through its association with ITRI. It is the premier

What is
Soldertec?
|
|
Soldertec
is
a leading centre of excellence in the field of lead-free soldering,
with
a heritage of technical leadership, research, development and training
on all solder alloys. The organisation first worked on lead-free
solders
in the 1980?s with newly developed plumbing alloys. Then, as ITRI, it
co-ordinated
the world?s first lead-free solder collaborative project, funded by the
UK Government DTI, in 1991. Since that time, the organisation has
continued
to play a leading role in alloy selection, process development, global
networking and information dissemination pioneering the development of
this new technology in the electronics sector.

As
the electronics
industry faces the challenge of transition to lead-free soldering,
driven
by EU legislative proposals, Soldertec provides an important source of;
legislative information and industry news updates; advice and
information
on selection of the most suitable lead-free solder type and their
processing
characteristics; other technical information, expert advice, product
testing
and failure analysis; opportunities for networking and participation in
collaborative research; an extensive database of literature and patent
abstracts.

Some
information
is available for free access on the Soldertec website and expert test
services
are available to all. However, the Soldertec membership package enables
companies to access a much wider range of benefits and ensures that
companies
are fully aware of all environmental, legislative, technical and
business
issues related to lead-free production. Members will also be fully
aware
of any opportunities to participate in initiatives to secure
Government,
EU or other project funding.

Soldertec
and the Future
|
|
The
future work
of Soldertec will be focused on assisting industry during the imminent
practical implementation phase of lead-free soldering, both in Europe
for
compliance with impending legislation, and on a global basis. This will
be achieved through continuous improvement of the range and quality of
services offered on information provision, technical test and research
services, and, through customised membership packages.

Solderetc
will
continue to expand on its work to co-ordinate European research and
training
programmes
in order to generate essential data for the electronics industry.
Detailed
projects to contribute to the knowledge of the behaviour of all
lead-free
alloy types, and the development of new technology, will be initiated
through
the expansion of Soldertec led collaborative projects in key technical
areas, with particular focus given to materials related issues where
Soldertec
specialist knowledge is key. Work to co-ordinate industry supply chain
target dates and roadmapping will continue, through further development
of alliances with key trade associations and technology centres around
the world.

In
alliance with
Government agencies or similar organisations, Soldertec will focus on
specific
training and consultancy programmes that will support smaller companies
through the implementation phase of lead-free.
