תיאור המפגש

The creation of complex human-made systems requires a combined effort, involving concepts of system engineering and complex project management. However, these two fields are currently advancing almost independently. In this research-based presentation we offer a unifying view of the two fields and show how they can and should be integrated during the process of system building.

We will start with some initial definitions, including what is “system engineering management.” We will then discuss two main topics. First, we claim that most complex projects today are uncertain, non-linear, and changing; they are highly impacted by the dynamics in the environment; and, “one size does not fit all.” We will present a framework for distinction among different system projects and show how to adapt the right system engineering and its management approach to the right system.

In the second part, we deal with the business aspects of system engineering and complex project management. We will show how to combine the strategic business-related aspects

of system design and complex projects, the operational needs of getting the job done, and

the leadership sides of organizing, motivating, and inspiring the project team. This approach is helping organizations to better focus their efforts on creating value, competitive advantage and winning in the marketplace. We conclude with several examples and team exercises to illustrate the methodology and concepts.
