What you will Learn: This presentation outlines a method to develop and implement best practices in a project-based company. A company's "Outstanding Project” is identified, and modeled according to the Diamond Approach, and is used as reference for further projects. This exceptional and unique project is used as a showcase example and as a source of learning and comparison for the people and teams working on areas and activities similar to and related to what was done for the model project. A case study of a High-tech company project is presented and analyzed showing that team interactions, communications processes and system integration activities are the most valuable lessons learnt .
In project management one size does not fit all. This assertion has been well described by Shenar & Dvir in their book: ‘Reinventing Project Management: The Diamond Approach to Successful Growth and Innovation’ (2007). This approach provides a framework in which a project is classified to be of a certain type, and based on the defined type, appropriate management methods and attitudes can be adopted. Selecting the ‘right’ approach should significantly increase the probability of successfully meeting the project objectives.
The session will be composed of two segments . In the first segment a brief overview of the Diamond Approach willl be presented . In the second segment , which is the main part of the presentation , we will discuss a case study in which project classifications is used in order to learn from best practices in project management .
