Prof. Menachem P. Weiss
Prof. Weiss received his ME degrees from the Technion IIT: BSc in 1960, MSc in 1968 and DSc in 1973. Prof. Weiss worked for Rafael from 1963 till 1992 as a Head of Design dep't, Head of a major multidiscipline project, and as the Director of Procurement in the Central Management. In 1975 received the Israel Award for Defense, by the President of Israel. Was Research Fellow in UC Berkeley in 1974-6, in Lawrence Berkeley labs in 1984, and in University College, London in 1990/1. Was nominated the first Systems Engineer in Rafael (and possibly in Israel) in 1972. Has also been a known authority in crane structures and elevators. Since 1994 Prof. Weiss has been with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in the Technion IIT. His research specialized in developing Systematic Design Methods and Tools and original Fatigue-Design Models. With his associates and PhD students Prof. Weiss developed ICDM – the Integrated, Customer Driven, Conceptual Design Method. ICDM became the design tool for novel products and systems in many Israeli companies, and the central course in the Technion program for MSc in Systems Engineering. Prof. Weiss published his research in top journals and conferences. Recently, Prof. Weiss is active in developing novel Medical Devices.
