Getting Large Systems Small
Tuesday Oct. 30, 2007 - Invited talk
In this talk, you will study complex
systems design using the metaphor of mazes. Mazes look huge when you
are in. You are at some place of the maze and you may see a friend
nearby. But you don’t know how to reach her, or how to talk to her.
Eventually, you meet your friends again when you exit the maze. If you
want to discuss with your friends something you saw in the maze, then
you must re-visit it. Thus mazes are huge. However, when seen from
bird’s eye, they are generally quite small and easy to catch. System
design is alike exploring a maze. Unless you take bird’s eye view
you’ll easily get lost.
